Papan SWO-2 ini merupakan faktor banyak sedikitnya sarang burung walet yang dapat menempel, populasi burung di dalam rumah tersebut.

Sirip papan SWO-2 merupakan tempat burung membuat dan menempelkan sarangnya. Ketika hinggap atau membuat sarang, burung walet akan menancapkan kukunya pada sirip papan, oleh karena itu di perlukan bahan sirip yang lunak.

Sirip juga harus memiliki daya serap yang kuat terhadap cairan agar sarang walet yang terbuat dari liur dapat menempel dengan kuat. Daya serap sirip sangat penting karena sarang walet akan menahan beban yang samakin berat, jadi apabila daya serap kurang kuat maka sarang walet akan mudah jatuh . Bahan sirip yang baik digunakan adalah kayu, selain lunak dan menyerap cairan, sarang walet yang telah di panen pada sirip kayu akan meninggalkan bekas pondasi sehingga mempermudah burung walet untuk membuat sarang baru. The SWO-2 fin board is where the birds build and attach their nests. When perching or building a nest, swiftlets dig their claws into the fin board, therefore a soft fin material is required.

The fin must also have strong liquid absorption so that the nest, made from saliva, can adhere firmly. The fin's absorbency is crucial because the swiftlet nest will support increasing weight, so if it is not strong enough, the nest will easily fall. A good fin material to use is wood.
